My Classroom: Classroom Management, Brain Breaks, Organisation & more...
I am very passionate about behaviour management, but even more so about silent behaviour management-the kind you can't see because everything is under control. I truly believe it's so important to make your expectations clear at the start of the year, and keep that consistency and structure flowing through the whole year.
At the end of every term I not only reflect on the behaviour successes and difficulties, but I give students an opportunity to reflect on their own behaviour in terms of expectations. At the start of every term, students write these as goals in their reflection journal, and then reflect on these at the end.
My colleagues and I select specific strategies we want to implement and then we visualise how we want the actions to look as they are being carried out so that we can teach students step-by-step.  As said previously, it is very important that the first few weeks of school are spent introducing the expectations for behaviour, demonstrating them for students, and having students repeatedly practice the actions. I can't say this is easy- every student is different and have their own way in dealing with the class expectations.
My Class Dojo is a fantastic website and also an app that you can download on your ipad or phone. It focuses on individual rewards.
I use Pandora Radio and appropriate songs on youtube for rotations in Literacy. Students know the expectations on acting accordingly when moving from one rotation to the next. I love using Incredibox and GoNoodle as brain breaks! These websites are also great incentives to use as a whole class. Please check out these wonderful class management websites below:

Organisation

As mentioned on my home page, my colleagues and I LOVE using Google Docs. It's definitely something I cannot live without in the teaching world, and is a great tool that I highly recommend to any teacher. We have created folders for our Day Plans, Homework, KLA's, NAPLAN, Reports, Timetables and of course our Programs and Assessments. This online tool is very easy to use and saves a lot of time searching for everything, as it's all in one place. One thing I would say though, is to make sure you download and save everything onto your computer/laptop/device, just incase! As much as technology is great, it can also be unreliable at times.
This is a simple and effective strategy. Write your students names on paddle pop sticks, and place them in a jar, tin or jug. When it comes to discussions or when asking questions, randomly choose a paddle pop stick from the jar. The student has a choice to answer or pass. This gives everyone a chance to join in and share their ideas.

Organise synonyms in a central spot, so students know where to go. We have used popcorn boxes to place synonym cards in. You can purchase these from any discount store.

Organise your day with subject cards. This way, students know what the day looks like, and are prepared for what's next.
We have created a  Mathematics kit for every table, which has bread strings, place cards, dice, counters, string, a mini clock, a calculator, a stopwatch and a list of mathematics vocabulary. This is very handy for maths warm-up games and for quick access when completing rich tasks.
We have labelled all of our maths equipment so it doesn't magically disappear.  "This belongs to Year 3. Please return when finished with it."

These tubs are fantastic for marking tubs. We colour coded each subject so students visually know that the book with the blue cover belongs in the blue marking tub etc.
